Baptismal Team

The team works in pairs on a rota basis. They host a pre baptism meeting the Thursday before the baptism, where parents and godparents are welcomed. Two members of the team present an overview of the sacrament, the ceremony and the responsibility that the parents are taking on.

These same two members attend the baptism, welcoming the families, ensuring that everyone is prepared and comfortable with what they are doing before sharing with the priest in the celebration of the sacrament.

They also invite all children baptized during the year back to a Mass on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord in January.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist play an important part in the liturgical celebrations of the parish. As lay people they distribute Holy Communion at Mass with the priest. They also assist at various special liturgies during the year. Some of our ministers bring Holy Communion on Sunday to those who are housebound or sick. This ministry is a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian Community for those who are ill and cannot attend Mass. Ministers are sent forth from the Sunday Mass with the prayers and good wishes of our parish to those receiving at home. Initial training is conducted over two evenings of approximately two hours per session, followed by a Commissioning Ceremony at one of the Sunday Masses.

Once commissioned these ministers are placed on a rota serving the weekend Masses and are invited to serve at special liturgies when needed. Ministers who are available during the weekdays also serve on the weekday rota.

During the year diocesan and local workshops are offered for ministers to grow in their ministry and their faith.

Family Mass Group

Parish of the Annunciation Rathfarnham Family Mass GroupThe Family Mass is at 10.45am on a Sunday. There is no Family Mass on the Sunday's of the Do This In Memory Programme (the pre sacramental programme). The Family Mass Group recommenced in the Year of Faith to help make the Gospel message more accessible to children and to assist them in their understanding that they belong to a loving Christian family.

The children and their families are encouraged to take part in the Mass through the readings, which are from the Lectionary for Masses with children, and the bringing forward of the offertory gifts.

Sometimes the children present gospel mimes or introduce the readings in a creative way with art work. Parents and children find their attention and interest in the Mass stimulated by the special activities and participation of the families and the children through the Liturgy. Adults and members of the congregation find the Family Mass highlights the Gospel message in a simple yet very effective way.

The Family Mass Group meets once every two months, to plan ahead and evaluate. The group work in teams of two and are present at the Family Mass where they ensure that readers are prepared and that families involved in the liturgy are comfortable with their various roles.

There is initial training with support and workshops during the year. New members for the team are very welcome and much needed.
